As we continue our Week of the Young Child celebration; today is Tasty Tuesday! As yummy as Tasty Tuesday sounds, the day is amount more than filling our stomachs with our favorite foods. It is a great day to prepare meals and snacks together as a family. When it comes to cooking, there are many opportunities to connect the experience with math, science and literacy skills.
At Coddington Road Community Center, just a few of the many cooking and food-based projects we have enjoyed in the past include making applesauce, homemade ice cream, preparing our own salads, tacos, trying new foods and having a homemade pizza party after reading the book “Secret Pizza Party,” by Adam Rubin.
If you would like your toddler or preschooler to help with food preparation at home, please read The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) article title “I Helped Too!” Cooking with a Tiny Helper.
