Youth Employment
Counselor-in-Training Program (Paid Employment Opportunity)
Camp Coddington is known for our successful CIT program. The CIT Program is open to teens at least 15 years old with prior experience attending a summer camp who are interested in learning leadership and job skills. The opportunity is a fun-filled first employment experience. We focus on development of skills relating to being a camp counselor, teamwork, effective communication, problem-solving techniques, volunteering and professional development.
The program includes regularly scheduled workshops, shadowing senior counselors, and leading planned activities. All CITs are required to work as scheduled, participate in the training program, and adhere to a job description and directives from the Camp Director and Community Programs Manager. Afternoon snack is provided. CITs are responsible for bringing their own lunch. CITs participating in the Youth Employment Program are paid the minimum wage rate.
Additional Information: A portion of the funding for our Counselor in Training program is provided by the Joint Youth Commission. Youth applicants from the Town of Ithaca, Village of Cayuga Heights, Village of Lansing and Town of Caroline will be given first priority for positions in these programs.
Application Instructions: Submit an application online or by completing this paper application.
6/6/2024 Update: Three spaces remain for youth in the Town of Ithaca, Town of Caroline, Village of Cayuga Heights and Village of Lansing. Applicants should have availability to work 5-6 weeks throughout the summer, including the weeks of August 19th and August 26th.
Junior CIT Program
The Junior CIT program is an unpaid internship program for youth age 14 who have previously attended at least one year of Camp Coddington. This program is also open to middle school age campers. Junior CITs are placed in a camp group where they will enjoy all the traditional camp activities, while acting in the capacity of a camp volunteer.
Due to the age of participants in this program, the youth need to be registered as campers, however we are offering a 50% discount on camp tuition for weeks that the youth participate in the Junior CIT program. There are a limited number of spaces available, application and a meeting with program director is required; placement is not guaranteed.
Application Instructions: Applications will open March 1, 2024.
